Eva Ostrum specializes in urban secondary school improvement. Her professional experience includes working on two successful urban high school turnaround teams, as both a teacher and administrator. Eva's institutional clients have included schools, school districts, educational nonprofits, education think tanks, and government agencies.

Eva also works with individual families and membership groups on navigating the college admissions process, strengthening general study skills, improving student writing, and raising overall academic achievement.

Institutional Consulting: Schools and school districts frequently identify teaching and learning goals and outcomes but need strategic support to reach them. Eva and her team spend time on the ground, in schools, with a range of constituency groups (students, parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and more) to determine whether a clearly defined action plan exists, what areas of it a school is already implementing well, and where and how it could improve what it is doing. Eva and her team create an action plan with clearly defined steps, recommend strategies for increasing a school’s capacity and building its infrastructure with existing resources, and suggest follow-up professional development to help a school reach its goals as efficiently and at as high a level of quality as possible.

Policy Consulting: Eva Ostrum has consulted on education policy since 1990. Policy consulting generally focuses on a particular issue that an education nonprofit, think tank, or agency wants to research and evaluate before implementing a new approach to an existing problem.

Professional Development: Eva Ostrum has researched, written about, and delivered cutting edge professional development (PD) for teachers for more than 15 years. She creates and conducts customized professional development modules for high school guidance counselors and teachers. Guidance counselor PD focuses on maximizing efficiency and improving college admissions results. Teacher PD concentrates on improving classroom instruction. Clients have included both urban district high schools and charter schools.
